What is an Illini Transfer Ambassador (ITA)?

An Illini Transfer Ambassador (ITA) is a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign undergraduate transfer student that plans and implements orientation, academic, and social programming for new transfer students. ITAs assist, advise, and support New Student & Family Experiences (NSFE) with various events such and Fall Welcome Days, Fall and Spring Transfer Orientation, LIT, social events, and educational resource opportunities. Our mission is to provide a space for incoming and current transfer students to have a community where they can thrive. As leaders and mentors, ITAs hope to help transfer students utilize campus resources to benefit them during their transition to campus and beyond.

What you need to be an Illini Transfer Ambassador (ITA)?

  • Be a UIUC transfer student
  • Be a full-time undergraduate student
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and keep a semester of 2.0 or higher
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with UIUC
  • Have a positive attitude, be flexible, and desire to help others
  • Must be available for weekly ITA meetings (current meetings are Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 pm) *meeting times are subject to change, depending on team’s semester schedule
  • Ability to be present for the full academic year (length of position is August 2024-May 2025)
  • Must complete all application requirements
    • Informational session is a prerequisite to applying and being interviewed

    • Preparation, marketing, hiring, execution, etc.
  • Leadership and public speaking development
  • A yearlong experience of fun memories!

What you will do through the ITA experience?

  • Welcome new transfer students to the University of Illinois family
  • Provide new and current transfer students with important information and resources on campus
  • Advise New Student & Family Experiences (NSFE) with the future of the Illinois Transfer Experience
  • Be a mentor to assigned transfer students through our Leading Illinois Transfers (LIT) program
  • Plan and execute orientation programs and social events including Fall and Spring orientations, LIT, service programs, outreach opportunities, recruitment, and more!

The ITA 2024 application is due Sunday, February 18 by 11:59 pm. Please review the ITA information packet (pdf) to learn about the application process.

A confirmation email will be sent to candidates no later than February 22 providing detailed information about interviews. Tentatively, group interviews are Wednesday, March 6 from 6-8 pm CST and individual interviews are Thursday, March 7, which you will receive a specific time between 6-8 pm CST.
