2020 was a year to remember in so many ways. (Re)Establishing Your Connection is about YOU the student. Whether you started in fall 2020 or fall 2021, this is YOUR opportunity to establish a connection with Illinois.

Schedule information is tentative and subject to change.
All programs excluding "An Illini Beginning" are designed specifically for new incoming students.

Monday–Thursday, August 16–19

An Illini Beginning

Date: Monday–Thursday, August 16–19

Time: 9 am–5 pm

Location: 2nd level of State Farm Center

Date and time dependent on your student's move-in date.

Parent/guests are invited to visit with various campus partners on the 2nd floor of State Farm Center while your student completes their COVID-19 test and get checked into their housing assignment. This is an opportunity to gather information about resources available on campus to help with the transition.

Targeted audience: Parents/families of first year students and transfer students

Thursday, August 19

Today is the unofficial start of you beginning your journey at Illinois. It’s the beginning of a new chapter; one that will be with accolades both academically and socially. Get ready! Your Illinois Beginnings start now!

Illinois Sights & Sounds and Illinois Traditions

Date: Thursday, August 19

Time: 8:30 pm (doors open at 7:30 pm)

Location: Memorial Stadium

Come and join other new students begin their journey at Illinois for an evening of fun and traditions. Illinois Sights & Sounds is one of many programs that introduce students to the what it means to be an Illini and that you, the student, are Illinois. During Illinois Sights & Sounds, you will also begin to learn songs and chants sang at Athletic events or as a greeting when you see another Illini!

Wristband is required for entry and can be picked up at centralized check-in.

Targeted audience: First-year and second-year students

Outdoor Concert

Date: Thursday, August 19

Time: After Illinois Sights & Sounds (approximately 9:30 pm)

Location: Grange Grove

Get ready to dance and sing your heart out to with two local bands (90's Daughter and Land of Panda) and a live concert by Ava Max. Let’s kick off your first day as an Illini with some fun and excitement! Please bring a small blanket for your comfort while sitting on the lawn.

Wristband is required for entry and can be picked up at centralized check-in.

Friday, August 20

Today, you will be formally introduced to the campus community. You will have the opportunity to participate in a traditional ceremony to officially welcome you to the Illini Family and also be exposed to various resources available to you throughout campus.

Campus Honors Program New Student Orientation and BBQ *

Date: Friday, August 20

Breakfast: 7:45 –9:45 am in the Illini Union Ballroom

BBQ: 5–7 pm at the Campus Honors Program House – 1205 W. Oregon St., Urbana

New Student Convocation *

Date: Friday, August 20

Time: 10 am (doors open at 9 am)

Location: State Farm Center

New Student Convocation is the University of Illinois’ official welcome for all new incoming undergraduate students and marks the official start to your journey. After New Student Convocation, come join us in Lot 31 for the Welcome Celebration where you will have lunch and the opportunity to learn about the various resources available on campus to students.

College Meetings

Date: Friday, August 20

Time: 1:30 pm

Location: Various outdoor spaces on campus (Orientation Leaders will guide you)

Get ready to start your academic journey with your new college mates while meeting and learning more about the college you belong to. Hear from the dean of the college and other senior level administrators as they introduce you to the various opportunities available to you.

  • Agricultural, Consumer, & Environmental Sciences (ACES) * – Stock Pavilion 1402 W. Pennsylvania Ave. Urbana, IL (students should enter on the south side of Stock Pavilion)
  • Applied Health Sciences (AHS) – 6th Street lawn area.
  • Division of General Studies (DGS) – Illinois Field, 601 E. Kirby Ave.
  • Education – Outside the College of Education on the north side of the building.
  • Fine and Applied Arts (FAA) – Outside of Temple Buell on the north side of parking lot.
  • Gies College of Business – South side of South Quad.
  • Grainger College of Engineering – Engineering students will receive an email sharing with them specific information about Launch! Quest.
  • Liberal Arts & Sciences – Main Quad » LAS Liftoff 2021
  • Media – North Side of the South Quad near David Kinley Hall (DKH).
  • School of Information Sciences (iSchool) – Sidewalk area in between Henry Administration and English Buildings (rain location 501 E. Daniel St. Room 126).
  • School of Social Work – Illini Grove (north end) located off of Lincoln Ave.

Illini Union LateNighter *

Date: Friday, August 20

Time: 8 pm–Midnight

Location: Illini Union

Grab your roommate and come have a blast with music, games, an illusionist/magician, comedy, food, giveaways, bowling, billiards, karaoke, bingo, and more — all for free! It's your chance to explore the Illini Union and see why it is the center of campus activity and involvement. For all Illini Union Welcome Week events visit go.illinois.edu/WelcomeWeek.

Saturday, August 21

Start your day off with your mind, body, and soul and get yourself ready to begin building relationships with other Illini. This day is built around self-care (which includes a little bit of fun). We encourage you to join us at these events and begin building your community.

Campus Tours

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 10 am–4 pm

Location: Anniversary Plaza and Outside of Krannert

Excited to learn campus? Meet one of our Orientation Leaders at either the Diana Fountain (located on the west side of the Illini Union) or outside of Krannert Center for Performing Arts (located on the west side on Goodwin St.). Tours will happen from 11 am–4 pm. Make sure you bring your class schedule!

Illini Frenzy

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 11 am–2 pm

Location: Lot E-24

Illini Frenzy will be held outdoors on Saturday, August 21 from 11 am–2 pm in Lot E-24 (West side of ARC). Booths will be stationed in the lot for students to receive information and free giveaways from various departments and businesses. Activities, food trucks and more will be onsite for students to enjoy. The first 1,500 students will also receive a FREE Illini Frenzy t-shirt. Come out and join the fun!

Planning Your Research Journey at Illinois Workshop *

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 11 am–12:30 pm and 1–2:30 pm

Location: Lincoln Hall, Room 1002

Welcome incoming freshman to the University of Illinois! Undergraduate research is widely recognized as one of the highest-impact experiences that a student can have during their time at university, but we know it can be intimidating. Join the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) to address any concerns you may have about research, discuss how your interests are reflected in research around campus, and create your plan to get started!

Wake-Up Call *

Location: Foellinger Auditorium

Wake Up Call is hosted by BNAACC's 100 STRONG and is an introduction to Black student life here at Illinois! Join us for an afternoon filled of introductions, traditions and performances!

Illini Vibes *

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 6:30 pm doors open (7:30 pm show starts)

Location: State Farm Center

On Thursday, you danced and sang your heart out; tonight, get ready to dance and laugh uncontrollably. Welcome to Illini Vibes — a time where you can come meet new people, laugh until you cry, and just have some fun to the end of a long week. Illini Vibes will be hosted by Colin Jost from Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update and will feature SNL cast members, Steven Castillo and Andrew Dismukes.

Sunday, August 22

Continue to get connected and build relationships by getting involved with registered student organizations and students with similar interests as yours. Research shows part of an individual’s academic success is connected to their level of involvement and engagement within the campus community. Engage in finding ways to get connected to Illinois and the larger campus community.

OMSA’s Welcome Seminar *

Date: Sunday, August 22

Time: 10:30–11:30 am (doors open at 10 am)

Location: Illini Union Ballroom

The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) helps students maximize their personal and academic success. At the Welcome Seminar you will meet our fantastic staff, learn about our FREE academic support services, and—most importantly—meet other amazing OMSA students! FREE food and OMSA swag also provided.

Quad Day

Date: Sunday, August 22

Time: Noon–4 pm

Location: Main Quad area

Quad Day is one of Illinois's largest traditions! Join us and explore the many opportunities to engage and connect with your fellow students.

Throwback Time Machine

Date: Thursday, August 26

Time: 8–11 pm

Location: Anniversary Plaza (Quad)

Light up the Quad with Throwback Time Machine, a pop music dance party with songs from the 70s to present focusing on dances from different eras. Check out this interactive experience and learn more at their website. Rain Location: I-Rooms

Welcome Back Make & Take

Date: Thursday, August 26 and Friday, August 27

Time: 8:30–10:30 am

Location: Women’s Resources Center, 616 E. Green Street (next to McDonalds)
