Did you start your Illinois journey in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021? Guess what? While we cannot go back in time, we can help you begin making some of those memories. Throughout the 2021-22 academic year, there will be a series of events held for second-year students. Keep checking the New Student Programs website and your university email for updates to the events.

Thursday, August 19

Illinois Sights & Sounds and Illinois Traditions

Date: Thursday, August 19

Time: 8:30 pm (doors open at 7:30 pm)

Location: Memorial Stadium

Come and join other new students begin their journey at Illinois for an evening of fun and traditions. Illinois Sights & Sounds is one of many programs that introduce students to the what it means to be an Illini and that you, the student, are Illinois. During Illinois Sights & Sounds, you will also begin to learn songs and chants sang at Athletic events or as a greeting when you see another Illini!

Wristband is required for entry and can be picked up at centralized check-in.

Outdoor Concert

Date: Thursday, August 19

Time: After Illinois Sights & Sounds (approximately 9:30 pm)

Location: Grange Grove

Get ready to dance and sing your heart out to with two local bands (90's Daughter and Land of Panda) and a live concert by Ava Max. Let’s kick off your first day as an Illini with some fun and excitement! Please bring a small blanket for your comfort while sitting on the lawn.

Wristband is required for entry and can be picked up at centralized check-in.

Friday, August 20

Illini Union LateNighter *

Date: Friday, August 20

Time: 8 pm–Midnight

Location: Illini Union

Grab your roommate and come have a blast with music, games, an illusionist/magician, comedy, food, giveaways, bowling, billiards, karaoke, bingo, and more — all for free! It's your chance to explore the Illini Union and see why it is the center of campus activity and involvement. For all Illini Union Welcome Week events visit go.illinois.edu/WelcomeWeek.

Saturday, August 21

Campus Tours

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 10 am–4 pm

Location: Anniversary Plaza and Outside of Krannert

Excited to learn campus? Meet one of our Orientation Leaders at either the Diana Fountain (located on the west side of the Illini Union) or outside of Krannert Center for Performing Arts (located on the west side on Goodwin St.). Tours will happen from 11 am–4 pm. Make sure you bring your class schedule!

Illini Frenzy

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 11 am–2 pm

Location: Lot E-24

Illini Frenzy will be held outdoors on Saturday, August 21 from 11 am–2 pm in Lot E-24 (West side of ARC). Booths will be stationed in the lot for students to receive information and free giveaways from various departments and businesses. Activities, food trucks and more will be onsite for students to enjoy. The first 1,500 students will also receive a FREE Illini Frenzy t-shirt. Come out and join the fun!

Planning Your Research Journey at Illinois Workshop *

Date: Saturday, August 21

Time: 11 am–12:30 pm and 1–2:30 pm

Location: Lincoln Hall, Room 1002

Welcome incoming freshman to the University of Illinois! Undergraduate research is widely recognized as one of the highest-impact experiences that a student can have during their time at university, but we know it can be intimidating. Join the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) to address any concerns you may have about research, discuss how your interests are reflected in research around campus, and create your plan to get started!

Illini Vibes *

Time: 6:30 pm doors open (7:30 pm show starts)

Location: State Farm Center

On Thursday, you danced and sang your heart out; tonight, get ready to dance and laugh uncontrollably. Welcome to Illini Vibes — a time where you can come meet new people, laugh until you cry, and just have some fun to the end of a long week. Illini Vibes will be hosted by Colin Jost from Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update and will feature SNL cast members, Steven Castillo and Andrew Dismukes.

Wristband is required for entry and can be picked up at centralized check-in.

Quad Day is one of Illinois's largest traditions! Join us and explore the many opportunities to engage and connect with your fellow students.

Relive your childhood and let us take your FREE First Day of School Picture so you can share it with your friends and family on social media and beyond!

Movie on the Quad

Date: Monday, August 23

Time: 8:30 pm

Location: Anniversary Plaza (Quad)

Grab the best seat on the Quad for a special screening of F9 with the Union in the background. Meet new friends on the lawn! Rain location: I-Rooms.

Throwback Time Machine

Date: Thursday, August 26

Time: 8–11 pm

Location: Anniversary Plaza (Quad)

Light up the Quad with Throwback Time Machine, a pop music dance party with songs from the 70s to present focusing on dances from different eras. Check out this interactive experience and learn more at their website. Rain Location: I-Rooms

Welcome Back Make & Take

Date: Thursday, August 26 and Friday, August 27

Time: 8:30–10:30 am

Location: Women’s Resources Center, 616 E. Green Street (next to McDonalds)

Stop by the Women's Resources Center between 8:30–10:30 am for coffee, tea, donuts, and supplies to help you finish the first week of classes strong! All gender identities welcome! Learn more or follow @IllinoisWRC.

Fighting Illini Football Game

Date: Friday, September 17

Time: 6–8 pm (Game starts at 8 pm)

Location: Grange Grove – Memorial Stadium

Bring your rally towel with you and support the Fighting Illini Football team against a BIG10 rival, the Maryland Terps. Make sure to stop by Grange Grove before the game from 6-8 pm and grab some giveaways, cookies, and play a game of cornhole with New Student Programs, Illinois Student Government, and the Illini Union Board.

Block I Photo

Date: Saturday, September 25

Time: 7:15 pm (Gates open at 6:45 pm)

Location: Memorial Stadium

Get excited and get ready to take your Block I photo! Join us inside Memorial Stadium at 7:15 pm to have your picture taken in the Block I format. If you’re a second-year student, RSVP here, letting us know you will be present for the photo.

Sophomore Event at Grange Grove

Date: Saturday, September 25

Time: 7:30 pm

Location: Grange Grove

Second-year students are invited to join us for a night of entertainment at Grange Grove featuring Joe Kirk (The Voice Season 7), Willie Spence (American Idol Season 19), and Landon Cube (Singer/Rapper).

This event is private and not open to the public / CU community. Clear bag policy will be enforced. Non-clear bags will not be permitted.
