Illini Transfer Ambassador (ITA)

What is an ITA?

An Illini Transfer Ambassador (ITA) is a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign undergraduate transfer student that supports transfer students through communication, outreach, orientation, and programming. ITAs assist, advise, and support New Student & Family Experiences (NSFE) with various events such as Fall Welcome Week, Fall and Spring Transfer Orientation, social events, and educational resource opportunities. Our mission is to provide a space for incoming and current transfer students to have a community where they can thrive. The goal is to help the NSFE office get new students excited and connected. Excited about their time at Illinois and connected to the people, places, things, and opportunities that will help them succeed. 

Requirements to be an ITA

  • Be an Illinois transfer student
  • Be a full-time undergraduate student
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and keep a semester GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university
  • Have a positive attitude, be flexible, and desire to help others
  • Must be available for weekly ITA meetings *meeting times are subject to change, depending on team’s semester schedule
  • Ability to be present for the full academic year (length of position is August 2026-May 2027)

What you will do during the ITA experience

  • Welcome new transfer students to the University of Illinois family
  • Provide new and current transfer students with important information and resources on campus
  • Advise New Student & Family Experiences (NSFE) with the future of the Illinois Transfer Experience

Ambassador Roles: 

Social Media & Engagement Ambassador — Content & Strategy Lead

- Lead content creation for Illinois Transfers social media platforms 
- Coordinate and maintain a weekly posting schedule
- Ensure content aligns with University of Illinois brand guidelines

- Manage audience engagement, comments, and direct messages
- Support campaigns and cross-promotional efforts

 

Social Media & Engagement Ambassador — Engagement & Assessment Lead


- Monitor audience growth and engagement patterns
- Compare engagement data with attendance and participation trends
- Assist in monthly reporting and reflection on what content drives student connection
- Track post engagement metrics (reach, likes, shares, comments, saves)
- Identify trends in content performance over time
- Analyze correlations between event promotion posts and program attendance
- Share insights during team meetings to inform programming and outreach decisions
 

Outreach & Orientation Ambassador — Outreach & Campus Resource Lead

 

- Lead tabling, campus fairs, classroom visits, and outreach campaigns
- Build partnerships with campus units supporting transfer students
- Coordinate logistics for outreach and campus resources related events, including staffing and materials w/NSFE professional staff
- Assist with scheduling ambassadors for outreach events, resource events, and tabling
- Participate in post-event reflection and work with social media & engagement Leads on assessment 

 

Outreach & Orientation Ambassador — Community-building Programming Lead

 

- Design and implement community-building programming for transfer students
- Facilitate social events and peer engagement opportunities
- Coordinate event logistics, space needs, staffing, and timelines for community programming w/NSFE Professional staff

- Lead the communication in a GroupMe for new students
- Support orientation logistics and communication with incoming transfer students
- Participate in post-event reflection and work with social media & engagement Leads on assessment

 

Newsletter & Communications Ambassador

 

- Produce the monthly Transfer Newsletter from planning through distribution
- Draft newsletter articles and coordinate content submissions
- Gather transfer stories, resource highlights, and event recaps
- Design newsletter layout and visual assets
- Prepare email-ready versions and coordinate distribution

 

*All positions will collaborate with peer leaders and NSFE professional staff to create a seamless and comfortable transfer experience

 

Attend an Informational Session: 

  • Friday, February 27th 12:00pm-1:00pm

  • Tuesday, March 3rd 6:00pm-7:00pm

     

Both informational sessions will take place at the New Student & Family Experiences Office (616 E. Green Street, Suite 210; doors between McDonald's and Subway, up on the 2nd floor).
