Medical Undergraduate Fees Per Semester for 2023-2024 School Year

Fall Semester Coverage

• Fee: $784 per semester
• Coverage: August 19, 2023–January 12, 2024

Spring Semester Coverage

• Fee: $784 per semester
• Coverage: January 13–May 10, 2024

Medical Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Change Period

• Fall 2023: August 18–September 29, 2023
• Spring 2024: January 12–March 1, 2024

Care includes:

Inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care; preventive services not provided by McKinley Health Center, mental illness-related services, durable medical equipment (DME), and prescription drug coverage.

Opt Out / Waiver Process

• Student’s coverage must be compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
• Can opt out during the Enrollment/Change Period (Fall Semester August 18–September 29, 2023 and Spring Semester January 12–March 1, 2024)
• To opt out, use the Opting Out form

What is considered ACA compliant?

• No maximum lifetime dollar amount limit.
• No restrictions to coverage for pre-existing conditions.
• Must provide for inpatient and outpatient mental health care.
• Cover health care received within a 50 mile radius of the Urbana-Champaign campus.
• Be in effect on or before August 21 and must remain in effect until the last semester the student is enrolled for that academic year.

Before opting out, consider this:

• If your plan requires the student see a specific doctor and there is not one in the UIUC area the student would need to travel home to see that doctor. So in effect, there would be no coverage here at school.
